November 4  Israel in a Changing Middle East

 

Nadav Tamir is Consul General of Israel to New England.  He began his public service in 1980 in the IDF and rose to the rank of Major. Joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993, Tamir was Policy Assistant to Foreign Ministers Shimon Peres, Ehud Barak and David Levy. He served as Political Officer at the Israeli Embassy in Washington and later returned to Jerusalem as adviser to the Director General at the Foreign Ministry.

 Howie Snyder, a veteran China hand, screened and discussed this heartfelt and humorous documentary about his experience studying classic Chinese stand-up comedy with a group of 8-year-olds in Beijing in 1996.

Howie tracks down his former classmates in the city that hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics, and through their emotional reflections we learn about their lives and dreams for the future.

As it charts a new path to overcome high levels of poverty, inequality and crime, Brazil's influence in regional and global affairs is growing. WorldBoston and the four producers of "Brazil Rising" -- part of Rising Powers: The New Global Reality, a project from The Stanley Foundation -- took the audience on a special journey into this fascinating land.

Meru Education Foundation presented globally acclaimed dancer and master choreographer Madhavi Mudgal and her niece Arushi Mudgal. Believers in tradition as a flowing stream that ever renews itself, the pair will perform innovative and dynamic compositions of Classical Indian dance this Sunday, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., at the National Heritage Museum in Lexington, Massachusetts.
